“Brussels illustrated by the Urban Sketchers” Follow up.

If you have consulted the Facebook page Urban Sketchers Belgium, you will have probably seen the call for participation to this project.

This book is sponsored by the Brussels Region, which think of it for its awards ceremonies, or as an original gift.

The original idea had already been developed a few years ago during an event called “Patrimoine à roulettes” which aimed to gather the sketches made between Schaerbeek station and the Palais de Justice by following the route of tram 94. Unfortunately, the book never came into being. On the occasion of the Heritage Days, the organisers reactivated the idea and proposed a collaboration with Urban Sketchers Belgium.

Initially designed to gather the sketches made during the 2018 Heritage Days, the scope has been extended to the 19 municipalities of Brussels.

To feed the stock of images, we have launched a call for participation for those who wish to participate by sending us the sketches you wanted to submit to the project.

The collection was generous: we currently have about 300 sketches from the notebooks of 18 participants. Brussels-City is very widely represented but this is explained by the vast portion of the territory it occupies (with “non-communes” such as Laeken for example) and by the density of monuments and activities

With the Brussels Region’s move to its new premises in November and the end-of-year celebrations, the project came to a standstill. Nevertheless, it remains one of the achievements planned and desired by the Region, it will not fail to be reactivated very soon. In the meantime, some new short outings will be organized to “complete” the stock of images, so follow the news of the events on the Facebook page and don’t hesitate to take a bite on your own initiative either!

The coming weeks will probably make it possible to remove some uncertainties and blurred points.
